Nepal’s Cricket team created a history in Sharjah by defeating mighty West Indies in Unity Cup T20I, 2025 sealing the series by 2-1. This was Nepal’s first ever bilateral series win against a full ICC member nation, marking a landmark for the younger generation and a start of a journey to achieve test status.
The series started on 27th September and the first match itself was registered as a historic first ever win against a Test playing nation for the Rhinos. Defending a total of 148, Nepal’s disciplined bowling attack stopped Indies at 129 and gave the audience one of the best low scoring thrillers by winning it by 19 runs. Captain Rohit Paudel was named as a Player of the Match after scoring 38 runs off 35 balls and claiming a wicket.
The second T20I was a full dominating match for the Rhinos, as they beat Indies by 90 runs after scoring 173 in the first innings. Rhinos’ Aasif Sheikh and Sundeep Jora scored 68 off 47 and 63 off 39 respectively. It was Nepal’s bowling attack who finished the Indies at just 83. Mohammad Aadil Alam clinched 4 wickets and the all rounder Kushal Bhurtel took 3 wickets and Nepal won their first ever series against a Test playing nation.
In the final T20I, West Indies bounced back strongly. Nepal were dismissed for 122 and the Indies chased the target in just 12.2 overs. Indies’ Amir Jangoo played an explosive inning of 74 off 45 balls. West Indies won by 10 wickets, ending the series on the high note, despite losing the trophy.
Kushal Bhurtel was named as Player of the Series for his contribution of 47 runs and 5 wickets in the series.
With this win, Nepal not only registered its name in the cricketing world but also inspired a lot of fans and the young cricketers back home. This Unity Cup 2025 will be remembered as a tournament where Nepal stunned a mighty team like West Indies and announced its arrival in the global stage.
